Camping

Camping at White Lake is an incredible experience. It is rustic, yet close to many attractions the area has to offer. It is a great place to stay if you are going into the White Mountains. It is situated in a large wooded area just to the side of White Lake. The park itself has many campsites to offer. They are clean, well maintained wooded sites. Many offer views of the lake as well, but even those that don’t are beautiful. It is a great place to get away from everything, even if it is just for the weekend. The campground has basic amenities such as bathrooms and showers as well. The campground is also  perfect for children. There is a large field where kids can run and play. The roads that service the campground are perfect for biking and walking as well. You can spend the day exploring the area, then gather later for a fire. There is nothing like cooking s’mores, and hearing the loons in the distance.

Hiking

White Lake has some great ways to see the park. One of the best ways to explore the park is on its trails. The Beach Path connects the campground to the beach, and is great for a quick walk. The trail is surrounded by trees and all sorts of beautiful vegetation. There are also several clearings where you can look over towards the lake. The trail only slopes a bit, and leads right down to the beach area. It is perfect for those who want to get out into nature, but may have a hard time with long hikes. The Around The Lake Trail is the second trail within the park. It leads visitors  through the beautiful scenery that surrounds the lake. While I was there earlier this month I took a quick walk down the path. In the woods I heard birds calling to one another and squirrels dashing about. The surface of the lake was undisturbed. Lilly Pads sat quietly upon the surface of the lake It was a beautiful afternoon, and I was so thankful I got to experience such a great place. Hiking the trails at White Lake is a great way to spend an afternoon.

Boating

Getting out onto the lake lets you see it in an entirely new way.  There is a boat launch down the road which allows visitors to bring their boats onto the lake.  The park also offers rentals of boats, so you can see if you enjoy getting out on the water. The landscape changes as you paddle out. The tall peak of Chocorua fades, yet the new perspective is just as beautiful. You can see the rolling hills, and the entirety of the lake. You get an intimate view of the beautiful wildlife that calls the lake home. On the far end of the lake tadpoles swim in the shallows. Often Loons will breach, looking at you before disappearing again. If you paddle at the lakes edge, you can get a great view of where the lake meets the shoreline. It is a quiet and undeveloped place that is great for internal reflection.
