This week there are lots of fully blooming flowers to be seen at Rhododendron State Park. “Peak bloom” is a bit early this year. Perhaps the weather has affected the timing. I suspect that it will always be a mystery. Plants are often that way and sometimes that can be a good thing. It helps us to remember how much we don’t know. The unpredictability of the natural world can be humbling. Although this year’s bloom is not as numerous as it might be, there will still be plenty of flowers to see this weekend and next week.
This weeks photos are a bit “washed out”. As patient as I was (which is generally not very), waiting for the clouds did not work out; the sun was too strong. I have a great little PHD camera (Push Here Dummy). Other than that, I have not discovered much else about how to adjust it. Despite the poor quality of the pictures, the variety of stages in the blooms can be seen. But this is not a new concept. Some flowers always come out early, and some can still be seen in late August.
Another mystery: The mosquitos weren’t so thick last week, but they are back, so come prepared.
